Hello Sheriff-lovers!
This is the second version of the Sheriff 600 site.
Look at this image! Isn't this what we all long for during the cold winter?
An exciting day of sailing and at dusk, when the wind is fading away, a nice little cove, protected from wind and wave on a small island in the archipelago (the photo is taken not far from Stockholm) where there is nobody else. You may make a small fire to grill some fish that you have caught yourself, or you may prepare your meal in the galley. Just dream away!

Frustrated hand at the laptop

Strange things may happen in the Internet world!
From the 13:th of March until the 1:st of April, Telia Sonera Internet customers could not reach the Sheriff 600 community site. To give some comfort, the mirror site has been working all the time. Hopefully, this situation should not have occurred for most of our visitors.

The reason for this was that two ISP's, the Swedish TELIA Sonera och the USA based Cognent disagreed on something, which led Cognent to just close down all connections to Telia Sonera. Since POWWEB, the web hosting company for this community, is keeping their business on the Cognent network, all Telia Sonera customers were locked out of the Sheriff 600 site.

It is completely unbelievable that anybody should be allowed to keep third parties as "hostages" for disagreements between two other companies. Completely irresponsible! On top of that, I would probably be laughed at if I asked for a refund for two weeks of not being able to contact my site, no updating, no stats viewing, no nothing, since POWWEB is also a customer with Cognent.

According to the french dictionary, "cogner" means to bump, poke, sock or slug, so "cognant" would be someone who is apt to do this. Which seems to be the way they treat business aquaintances. We are mad! And we might have to reconsider the hosting partner, even though POWWEB does not seem to have anything to do with this.

The above message was, however, not considered to be enough to publish a new version of the start-page. Currently, a number of contacts have occurred that calls for such an activity.
1. The Dutch flag JP Dijkstra from the Netherlands, (member # 56) has stumbled on another Sheriff 600 "clone", a boat very similar to the Sheriff, but slightly smaller. He has sent material to document this boat. It is, of course, also a Jouët, and it is called simply "Jouët 18", which means that it is almost exactly 6 meters long. You can click here to get to that corner of the "Members Corner" where these issues are documented.

Johan also tells us that he is currently updating the weblog for his specimen of the Sheriff 600 sailboat, and you may reach that site from here, or find the link in the Members List, in the "homepage2" link.

On top of that Johan reveals that he is aiming at starting up a dutch Sheriff 600 community of some sort. That is splendid news, and we do hope that we will have more information about that.

2. The Swedish flag Nicholas Sävenlid has bought Eric Bergströms Sheriff 600 with member # 42 (If you have read "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy", this is "the meaning of life"). Nicholas, you have requested to stay in the community, and you are most welcome. Of course you keep member # 42 in the Members List! You have also demonstrated, very credibly, exactly why you should not use wood built into the boats construction. You discovered already at the delivery sailing to the home harbour, that wood, molded into the hull from the factory and used to put screws through to fasten other things, had gotten moist through the holes for the screws and during many winters had frozen and cracked the fiberglass with leaks into the inner hull as consequences. You sent us a number of photos of which there is a selection put on the "Members Corner". Together with a plan to remedy this pest. This seems to us to be an important issue, since this "built-in" error is made from the factory, and thus may concern any owner of a Sheriff 600 sailboat. There should perhaps be made an addition to the page on "What to look out for when buying a Sheriff 600".

3. The Swedish flag Member # 9, Göran Persson, reported already during the late winter that his mail id in the Members List was wrong. Unfortunately, his mail was misplaced, but surfaced lately and the error is now corrected.

4. The French flag We would all like to welcome Franck Audebrands french version of the Sheriff 600 community on the net. It dissappeared many years ago, but is now back with exactly the same URL, and was updated 13 months ago. it was very simple to put the link back: The code used for this link in a version of this Sheriff 600 community that TODAY is exactly five years old was just copied into the same spot where it used to be. That links appearance was so nice that it should just reappear the same, even though this french community is now both for Sheriff 600 and Calife. Click here to get to the site or go to the Link List.

5. The Swedish flag On top of everything, we also have got a new member applicant. It is Emelie Fjell, who is actually representing a group of people who likes to sail her fathers Sheriff 600 sailboat named "Latvija". As of today the sail number ("no de coque" on the factory sign) is missing, but we hope that it is arriving soon. Emelie, you will get member # 60, which is an honorable figure. We would also like to get, for example, photos of your specimen and descriptions of what enhancements you have done or would like to do. You can find your information so far in the Members List. There you may also find a link to the blog that Emilie runs (in swedish) for the boat.

6. Thumb down               Thanks to JPDiekstra who turned our attention to that one of the links in the link list CERTAINLY should not be represented on the Sheriff 600 Community. It is very important that you send a mail to the Webmaster if you should detect any problem of this kind within the page. There are certainly workthroughs of the page contents once in a while, but due to the extensiveness of the current community it is a very time consuming thing to make a thorough investigation. There is software on the market to deal with things like this, but in the case of this community it is not only a question of having "decent" links, but also to have links that reflect the community purpose.
